Shannon James on the seventh season finale of NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS) Simone has also appeared in numerous feature films such as Life Partners, Good Luck Chuck and I Spy.
Simone is most often recognized from her recurring role as Grace, Max’s intern and love interest on Showtime's The L Word, working alongside Pam Grier, Marlee Matlin and Jennifer Beals. She also appeared in Battlestar Galactica opposite James Callis and Tricia Helfer, in the 2-part series finale Daybreak: Part 1 & 2, directed by Michael Rymer. On three seasons of Stargate SG-1, Simone played the recurring role of Ka'lel, sharing scenes with MacGyver himself, Richard Dean Anderson as well as Lou Gossett Jr. (Enemy Mine). It was also on Stargate that she worked with director/actor Peter DeLuise (21 Jump Street) who later starred with Simone in the comedic film noir short, THE BAR, on funnyordie.com.
As Constable Jan Ferris on Da Vinci's City Hall (aka Da Vinci's Inquest), Simone portrayed the reckless leader of a gang of renegade cops (based on true events). Series writer/creator Chris Haddock was so impressed with Simone’s performance that a one-episode part was written into a regular role for the entire series. In preparation, Simone rode along with police officers to the roughest areas in the city, witnessing first-hand the many dangers and realities of being a cop. Simone has also had additional tactical and firearms training both on and off set.
Gamers may also recognize Simone as the sexy cop in the EA video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted, awarded Best Racing Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, USA (2006).
Born in Calgary and influenced by her jazz musician grandfather, Simone took piano lessons and sang in a jazz choir performing in hotels during the holidays --this later led to Simone joining a hip hop/funk/jazz band, recording, and performing on tour and at The Vancouver International Jazz Fest. In her teens, she went from skipping school to go play pool, to graduating with Honors. She received a scholarship for her achievements in the arts, athletics and her volunteer work.
In the BFA program at the University of British Columbia, Simone trained under Shakespeare guru Neil Freeman. After graduation—and backpacking through Europe--Simone took a chance and flew to Toronto to audition for a Shakespeare Company. She booked the lead and toured for several months performing for up to four thousand people per show. Simone’s transition into film & television was a natural progression.
